1) Fall
Labor Day is gone and it is time to start teaching go in schools, libraries
and the Japanese Friendship Garden. If you have a child or a school
where go instruction would be appreciated, contact me.
Go continues on Tuesday evenings at Twiggs for the club.
Soon the UCSD go Club will be gathering again at the Price Center. I will send
an email out when the students return late in September.

2) 2017 US Go Congress
The contract has not been signed yet with the Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley
for the 2017 US Go Congress... so organizational things are on hold until then.
If that falls through other possibilities are San Diego State University, the Masonic Temple
in Mission Valley and Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana (don't ask).

3) Sunday, October 9: Fall Go Soiree
The fall gathering at my home of anyone who would like to play or watch go is tentatively scheduled for noon-5 p.m.
As usual, pizza will be served at 5 p.m. for those who want to hang around and
socialize. Beverages will be served throughout the afternoon. This is a fun
afternoon, where one can play an AGA rated game or just challenge someone
for a fun game. Self-paired games are the order of the day. Up to 40 players
have shown up in the past from the club, UCSD, SDSU, UCLA and even L.A.
All players from 8-dan and pros as well as beginners are welcome.
And everything is FREE. Come for the whole afternoon or just a part.

4) Sat-Sun, October 22-23: Cotsen Tournament in Los Angeles
The registration page for the Cotsen seems to be down. But it will be back
soon. This is the premier annual go tournament on the west-coast. The Open
section has about 20 5-6 dan players. Big cash prizes for all levels, including
double-digit kyu players are awarded as well as a free lunch both days,
a massage and the return of the entry fee if you play all rounds.
As in the past, I am asking San Diego players to register under the Orange County
Go Club. We have helped them win the $1,000 prize for the best club record in the
past. This money is then recycled into the Southern California Go Championship
later in the year. Help Kevin Chao have the best club.
Note: I will NOT be driving to the Cotsen this year as I will be in Tokyo attending
a workshop on teaching go in schools. Thank you Nihon Ki-in.
